I still don't understand.
I created a course. I defined two groups and I enrolled mr. X and mr. Y.
I added Mr X to group X
and Mr Y to group Y.
Then I added to the course a new "Display a directory" resource. I called it "X folder"
Then I added to the course a second "Display a directory" resource. I called it "Y folder"
In the "Common module settings" fieldset of the "Editing page" of "Display a directory" resource it is not present the "Group mode" drop down menu so, I
guess, the module doesn't support "group mode"
Now I go to one of my "Display a directory" resource and I push the top right corner button "Update this resource". Then I push "Roles" then "Override roles" and finally "Student". What is the capability "Access all groups" for?
Thank you in advance
Please see the moodle/site:accessallgroups documentation for an explanation of what the capability is for.
If you want to restrict X folder access to mr X only and restrict Y folder access to mr Y only, then you can do so in Moodle 1.9 by setting up some groupings. Please see the groupings documentation for more details.
I want to restrict access to folders by groups,
each group has its own folder like mr X, mrs Y example ...
is it proofed, that in moodle 2.0 groupings would enable me to restrict folders? I tried as described in http://docs.moodle.org/en/Groupings
Is there an example some where?
Hi there - yes you can do this in 2.0 as I suggested in my other reply to you just now.
Thank you Mary,
Sorry for make you work twice,
Site Administration > Development > Experimental > Enable group members only need to be checked.
Mary, I've seen your video on groupings and resources as well. One problem I have is that I can rescrict access on an activity, but not on resources.
E.g. using groupings I can restrict access to a Lesson, but not to a resource like a file. The groups/groupings icons simply do not appear next to resources...
Is there a work-around for this?
Thanks in advance,
Hi Rob. For resources you need to go to site admin>development>experimental>experimental settings and tick "enable for group members only".
