CIA switches to Moodle

CIA switches to Moodle

Hi,

I understand the CIA is converting or has converted to Moodle. Anyone familiar with this effort care to share such info as:

Why the switch? From what system? Why open source?

What made Moodle the winner?

Lessons learned? Advice for others considering a switch to Moodle? How's Moodle working out?

I'm a manager of instructional technology for a trucking firm (J.B. Hunt) and would like very much to connect with someone willing to share non-confidential information about Moodle at the CIA.

I'll be at Elliot Massie's Learning Trends '08 conference this coming week.

Thanks very much!

Hi Michael, just curious, where did you get this information from that CIA is converting to Moodle?

I just read found this thread (Sakai vs. Moodle), thought that I would share with folks here (this might provide some answers):

Hope this helps,

Oh by the way here are some info about how we use Moodle as mission-critical, enterprise-level application here at SFSU.

SFSU currently is one of the largest moodle installations in U.S.

Hope this helps,

Hi Wen, thanks for the great doc, very useful. Just added it to the docs http://docs.moodle.org/en/Documents_useful_for_decision_makers

I just found this https://www.cia.gov/careers/jobs/view-all-jobs/instructor-instructional-designer.html
I don't know if they're adopting Moodle but:
CIA University is looking for innovative instructors with proven expertise and creativity in providing and designing leadership instruction for online, face-to-face, and blended learning environments, including for a Learning Content Management System such as Moodle.

Omg!

Hi Wen,

I had contacted Elliot Massie regarding his Learning Systems '08 conference to be held this week in Las Vegas. I asked if it would cover the pros and cons of open source LMS solutions as well as commercial solutions. He responded to assure me it would and stated the CIA has chosen Moodle to replace their former system.

Cheers,

Mike

Dear Mike and Joao, thanks a lot for the info. Are you coming to the Moodlemoot SF 2008 this June? If so it would be great if we could get together. Thanks again and keep in touch!
