Hello, Martin!

Yes, I do. Please give me a week from now on, as I've neither read the script well nor installed Moodle on my server yet.

I can devote some time to this in the future. It's likely there are redundant strings we could pull from pots in other projects as well..

Taizan-san..

I haven't looked at this yet. I am director of my daughters weekend Japanese school and I'm suggesting our teachers and staff start using moodle to collect teaching materials and do contact stuff.

One thing I notice that we need... is backend into MajorDomo, etc. to allow reply via email back into the forums.

Anyway, have you done some translations? Did you save text in UTF8 or EUC/SJIS? I notice that PHP/MySQL have good Japanese text support. What about search feature for forums? Is it internationalized I wonder? Will look at that...

I can help translate some of the Japanese pages too. Please let me know if you want some help and let me know which modules (folders) to do.

Is shift-JIS ok??

Also, I noticed when using a Japanese OS, I had a JAVA script error pop up when accessing the reply reply page for this forum, does anyone else get an error message with a Japanese OS?

Cheers. Paul D.

Hi, Paul.

I notice the others are no longer subscribed here, and I haven't received any files yet from anyone, so maybe you want to start it off? wink

Hello Tokyo.

I would like to participate in Japanese translation project.

Please use "EUC-JP" instead of using "shift_jis".
moodle is removing backslashes at "lang.php" Line 261, so sometimes Japanese multibyte code is broken by this.

L261 $value = str_replace("","",$value); // Delete all slashes

For example code of "HYOU,Arawasu"is "955C" and backslash code is "5C".

If you translate mooodle->lang->jp files directly using an editor, pelase save these files as "EUC-JP".

Please tell me what can I do for this project smile
See you soon.

Mitsuhiro,

I only did a 2 files so far to test it out (choice.php and journal.php). Do you want to start on moodle.php and I will continue with the others. Let me know if this sounds ok.

I finished some Language files. I need help to brush-up these translated files or translate other files. I know it tough to translate Moddle files into multibyte language like Japanese, but it is really challenging smile

If you can help me, please tell me. I can open my test site for your co-operation. Now I start translating auth.php.

I upload Zip file of moodle->lang->ja.
Language code is Japanese, EUC-JP.

Nice job, Mits! Looks great so far!

I've checked it in and you can use it already on this site.

Tokyo, if you have time to do quiz.php or survey.php it'd be great to include a complete Japanese set of strings as part of the next release (1.0.6.5 due next Tuesday smile ). This might help get some other Japanese-speakers to help with polishing and the remaining help files.

Hello Martin.

I think 'strtolower' function on moodle->course->mod.php is breaking multybyte language code.When I removed 'strtolower' from these lines, I could solve multibyte breaking. Does it affect other modules if I remove 'strtolower' ?

[moodle->course->mod.php]

Line156
*before
$fullmodulename = strtolower(get_string("modulename", $module->name));
*after
$fullmodulename = get_string("modulename", $module->name);

Line207
*before
$fullmodulename = strtolower(get_string("modulename", $module->name));
*after
$fullmodulename = get_string("modulename", $module->name);

Line244
*before
$fullmodulename = strtolower(get_string("modulename", $module->name));
*after
$fullmodulename = get_string("modulename", $module->name);

Hello Mitsuhiro,

strtolower depends on the locale settings.

You are able to change this in Moodle under Admin/Variable settings.

Here is a print out of all the available locales of my server.

There is also an interesting thread under http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.strtolower.php

for a replacement of the strtolower function for multibytecharacters

function mstrtolower($str) {
   $len=strlen($str);
 for ($i=0; $i<$len; $i++) {
       if (ord(substr($str,$i,1))>0xa0) {
       //All GB2312 Chars starts above ascii 0xa0
           $tmpstr.=substr($str,$i,2);
          $i++;
       } else {
           $tmpstr.=substr($str,$i,1);
      }
   }
   return $tmpstr;

All checked in. smile Good work!

I'm actually posting this with a Japanese interface tongueout

Good luck with survey.php - it's a big one. Also, see this http://moodle.com/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=222 (but don't worry too much about it right now).

About locale settings, there is some work that needs to be done about including locale with the language. The problem is that locale strings are different on different operating systems (eg Unix is not always the same as Linux, is not always the same as Windows), so I have to make a nice GUI that the admin can use to override "suggested" locales in the lang files.

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin smile

Is it possible to add some string variable into the following php?
"Teacher Feedback" and "Save all my feedback"button appear on Japanese Moodle.

[moodle -> mod -> assignment -> submissions.php]

Line125
echo "<INPUT TYPE=submit VALUE="Save all my feedback">";

[moodle -> mod -> assignment -> lib.php]

Line315
echo "Teacher Feedback:";

I think it needs some chang at moodle/lang/??/assignment.php.
