When question 1 in the first Quiz is completed the student can chose to continue to the next question. When that is completed Moodle continues to the second quiz without waiting for the student to hit the "OK" button. The problem is, that Moodle do that so quickly that the student do not have time enough to read the response.
Is that the normal way for Moodle to handle the quiz chain or is it my installation that need an update (upgraded the day 1.9 was released)?
That is the way Hot Potatoes works in Moodle at the moment. Gordon, the developer, is aware of the problem and is currently working on a new version of the Hot Potatoes Module which won't have this problem.
In the meantime, the student can always hit the back button their browser to look at the answer again for as long as they need to.
If you want to change the delay, you can do so by modifying the hotpot-full.js file in the "mod/hotpot" folder on your Moodle site.
Search for the following line (around line 2955):
- setTimeout("hpForm.submit();", 2000);
If you never want the student to be automatically forwarded to the next quiz, then you will have to modify "mod/hotpot/attempt.php".
replace this line (around line 164):
- redirect($next_url, get_string('resultssaved', 'hotpot'));
- header("Status: 204");
- header("HTTP/1.0 204 No Response");
I've been struggling with this problem too, so am glad there is a workaround.
Thanks for the tip - I'll ask the admin on the moodle job I am doing to make the changes.
When do they think Moodle 2 will be ready? I just had a look, and it is obviously being worked on.
as far as I know Moodle 2.0 is due out toward the end of this year (2008).
download. It will have a commercially available counterpart, probably called HotPotPro. The commercial product will have extra features and is intended to fund the future maintenance and development of the open-source HotPot module.
HotPot v3.0 is coming along well; the handling of a "HotPot unit" containing one or more "HotPot quizzes" is done, the caching is done, the pre- and post conditions to control the path through the quizzes are working well, and the pages to control settings or multiple units/quizzes at once are well under way.
I not yet started the reports or the update script, but I am working as hard as I can to complete those in the window of opportunity which I am currently enjoying. I must complete the bulk of the programming before my teaching responsibilities resume on April 7th.
Hello to all,
I know I'm taking up the thread a bit late but I'll try anyway...
Is there/ will there be/ a way to open an H.P test according to score?
I would like my students to see the next quiz only once they've reached a given score.
The HotPot module cannot do this, but the QuizPort module, which is the successor to the HotPot module, can.
The QuizPort module allows you to set pre-conditions for a quiz, so that for example, you cannot do Quiz-B until you have achieved a score of 80% or more on Quiz-A.
The QuizPort module is not yet part of standard Moodle, but you can download it from the following location:
Hello. I am new to these Moodle communities, so please bear with me if I have some trouble explaining or understanding the technicalities.
We recently upgraded to Moodle 3.1 and have noticed a problem with HotPotatoes that didn’t exist in our previous version of Moodle/HotPotato. It seems like a similar problem to the original post in this thread. Namely, when you do a HotPotato quiz, and then click ‘Check’ to check your answers, if the answers are all correct, then the dialogue box showing the score with the ‘OK’ button only shows very briefly before the whole page reloads and returns to the main course page. This happens with all the different types of HotPot exercises (as far as I can tell) and it doesn’t matter if you get all the questions right the first time, or if you get some wrong when you check and then go back and fix them – once you have got them all correct, then the page immediately redirects. Previously, the dialogue box would appear, showing the score and the ‘OK’ button, which you could then click and then you would still be able to see the page and the correct answers in bold, before choosing to leave the page. With the new version, the dialogue box disappears and the page redirects before the students gets a chance to do anything.
I noticed that an upgraded HotPot module was released recently. Could this have caused this change? Is there anything we can do to return to the previous settings, so that the page doesn't automatically redirect after the end of a quiz?
Thank you in advance!
