I have tried to assess an asignment in a new wimdow. All I get is the file downloading to the desktop AND in some cases opening Adobe Go-Live, or some other program installeed on my CPU. Is there a fix for this or should I be talking to our network manager?

That sounds to me like a computer & browser problem rather than a server problem. Post a link to the assignment in question and I can tell you for certain. Also what kind of computer & browser are you playing with right now?
If it is the computer -- You can eliminate an improper file association (e.g. Adobe Go-Live) in Microsoft Windows by going into any folder on your computer, clicking on Tools->Folder Options->File Types and deleting whatever filetype you have associated with Adobe Go-Live that you don't want associated with Adobe Go-Live.
If it ends up being a server error, we'll fix it with an AddType in an .htaccess file...but I'm thinking it's the computer.
