I am one of the few believing netmondo that they pay for the development of moodle.org paid for their shared web hosting services. Partly the decision was influence by the discussions in the forum on the suitable webhosting company since the server of moodle.com at that point of time cannot accept new accounts. Now it is high time to bring out a comprehensive compendium of the moodle hosting with different servers by making a survey in the moodle.org. A timely advice is appropriate to the new users and the existing users on the potential problems and risks associated with these shared web hostings. It is more appropriate for the users of moodle and the partners of moodle.com to work out a moodle grid where the partners will take the responsibility of providing quality moodle service. Gradual migration from web hosting sites unfamiliar with moodle hosting to the moodle.com and moodle partners will reduce the academic disaters.
I certainly hope that they well remit the money they have promised to Martin, though.
I am just seeing the messages about Netmondo.
They do not have enough information in their webpage. There is no reference to backups and it seems (and confirmed by messages above) they have support services by email or chat. Are those assumptions correct?
Personally I would not object to Martin sending out a notice to all registered Moodle sites explaining the misinformation on Netmondo's site and showing the alternatives.
Who knows how many people have bought a hosting account thinking they were supporting Moodle?
I sent them another complaining email. In their defense, I don't think the above mentioned page is linked to anywhere within their site anymore and the response I got indicated that they were still planning to send the promised funds to Martin.... (check's in the mail?--heard that one before )
I have just checked out the Netmondo home page and there is still a link to the Moodle page mentioned in this thread. Are they still deceiving people?
Monday, they replied saying they do not offer any Moodle specific plans currently. For semi-dedicated servers they referred to www.superack.com.
The 'Mooodle plans' page reappeared on their home page...
But, as a personal consequence I stopped a test account I was having with them.
It has been just a single account for testing purposes, as I would never have a production site on a mass hosting provider. But... nevertheless, there is one moodler less there...
By context it seems their a hosting provider that has struck some deal with mooodle for which they are not fulfilling? Any place I can read more about this?
(Sorry if this is a faq...I did a forums search on "netmondo," and since the display results come back in "detailed" flavor...it's simply too hard to read/scroll through all the stuff. Hence I love phpBB-type integration so moodle doesn't have to reinvent the wheel...but I'm probably beating a dead horse here.)
I do not understand where the thread has strayed and we do not claim any ownership of Moodle. We have many (1000's) of moodle users and have ceased any advertising on this board. I have decided based on the many resellers we have to NOT join the partnership program with Moodle, as it would only be competing with my own customers. Many of NetMondo resellers have already signed up as a PARTNER and use our services.
Would that actually be a smart business move? As for Moodle being included with every plan we offer, we HAVE paid for that on EVERY server we have. Moodle is offered by 1000's of hosts, we (I) just really believed in it, as my son is the education coodinator as Texas A & M.
As for complaints on us, we DO have them just like any other host. I think the few pointed out is a great percentage due to us have a little over 162,000 customers. Anytime a customer is caught doing something they are not suppose to do, they get very upset. We will NOT allow a user to use our servers to send out 1000's of spam emails or host illegal material weather they say it is for "educational" purposes or not.
We have had 2 or 3 complaints on this board before we started dedicating servers to MOODLE use only. Since then, our users have been very happy.
I feel this thread was used in an attempt to discredit NetMondo, and it bothers me greatly. We do not push our services here and will have all Moodle related INFO, etc removed from our site. I will issue that request immediately to my webmaster after this response.
I encourage any critism on our service, if it is as horrible as this thread attempts to make it - please let us know.

Our complain is mainly about communication. We still wait for an answer to many messages asking why our site is suspended.
We use our site www.psicounc.org for Moodle only. Our site is suspended since June 18. We try many times to get an answer about the reasons for this suspension and we don’t receive ANY answer, so we decide to ask for help here, in this forum. Unfortunately, the only answer that we receive is your message.
If we did something wrong, let us know. I repeat you; we only use this site for Moodle, not for spam or illegal files.
We have many students (1800) so if this use of Moodle is considered spam, let us know first so we can make changes.
We don’t try to discredit Netmondo, we try to get help. And we are still waiting.
I am glad that you finally got a response/non-response from Mr. Cormie who totally missed the point of your postings and the responses of Moodlers.
I have a straight question and will ask for a straight answer. Mr. Cormie, have you and/or NetMondo donated the $3 to Moodle.org from every Moodle account created at NetMondo.com as you indicated would be done on your site.
Things do seem to have gotten a bit out of hand on this thread ... (please call off your layers, WP )
There seems to be two issues:
- frustration at lack of response from NetMondo help services - we should really continue to press them directly rather than talking about it here. There could be many reasons for the apparent silence (perhaps temporary) but posts here last forever.
- the "promise" on the Netmondo pages about payment to Moodle.org. Although Netmondo was under no obligation to make this promise (and actually they thought of it all themselves) it seems that it has really worked for them as a marketing tool (quite a few have let me know it was a factor in choosing NetMondo). Unfortunately the promise does not seem to have been followed through, possibly due to simple forgetfulness. NetMondo may yet decide to come good on this, but if they don't, then it does start to look like a deceptive marketing practice.

Well, actually, I can think of only one person who is a NetMondo reseller and they are still only considering becoming a Moodle partner, so this is a bit of an exaggeration (at best). Personally I don't mind whether you are a partner or not, but if you are going to set up this pseudo-partner mechanism (the $3) then at least follow through on it.
Let me clarify your misconception about moodle forum. The forum is value neutral. In fact more appreciation was there in this forum about your affordable service for moodle hosting. The forum only broadcasted to others about your presence. The critcism came only when about 1000 students of a universtiy simply got stranded in the webspace. The teacher and the taught relationship was suddenly severed and there is no way for the teacher to contact his students. He reported to this forum to find out a way to solve the crisis.
I am the one took the responsibilty of posting this problem to your support site. Unfortunately it is yet to be attended. Cheap service does not mean that the customer can be left in a lurch. Customer relationship and customer support are important factors. I am happy to see a revamping in you site promising prompt support service. Please state the factors in advance which you consider the taboos in your web site so that the same may be avoided. Please consider the forum as a constructive critic prompting you for a better support service.

We have to evaluate our resources and then decide what to do about the exam. We have an exam per month (of 1800 students), so we use a lot or resources.
There is an offer of Andreas (“for peak situations”) that we are considering too. Maybe, in our situation, a “distributed” strategy could be the best (use resources from our university and from private web hosting).
Also we learned that we have to keep our domain in a separate company...
I considered strange in a message here in this Forum, the commercial manager of Netmondo to point the reason of the problems that one of our friends had found, as being in function of the spam spread and material no ethical. This accusation I totally thought mistaken, because it is much more reliable an user's testimony than of a salesperson of services. It is a respect lack!
The explanation of the services offered in the site in Netmonsdo are quite incomplete and obscure. They don't specify nor offered in their dedicated servers the processor type nor the RAM memory. That is quite uncommon and strongly doubtful.
A retail service should offer trust and not to do accusations to their users. And in case of dissatisfaction because of some accidental mistake, he should offer satisfactory excuses and no stupid and aggressive answers.
I am really having a sample that Netmondo doesn't serve me for services of host of responsibility of information.

BTW, the problem is a new one. And cron job errors as well. And I'm not bashing Netmondo; when it works, it works well, but there are problems with something or other almost weekly. They do get resolved, but why so many problems to begin with? Growing pains?
Avoid Netmondo at all costs! I have been using them for 2 months and my server has just gone down for no apparent reason. It has now been down for 3 days and after numerous emails I have still had no response. I am changing ISP's today but this means that my site will be down for 24-48 hours.
Luckily I was using a test site (and not a client site) to check out Netmondo. Glad I ran the test now before moving any client sites over to them.
For those in the UK/Ireland, the web hosting company I am with (www.4uhosting.co.uk) has provided me with trouble free service at a reasonable cost. For £30.00 per year I get:
- 250mb of webspace
- 5gb bandwidth
- 1 mysql database
- unlimited emails
- Fantastico (moodle script already installed)
Have a look at what they have to offer, might be worth it.
Netmondo was just sold to one Mike Myles in Traverse City, MI.
Brandon and his cohorts seem to have run off on vacation and shut off their phones in the process.
Mike is trying to reboot a server, but the hosting company will not do so because they are going through a reseller and don't want to step on the resellers toes....Whee!
This just in from one of our teachers: "... just got off the phone with the President of the new company. He said that the old owners just up and left they cannot be contacted in anyway shape or form. He said that they are currently having some disc issues and that they are working on it. I told him that if we couldn't upload in a couple of days, I would call him back. He told me that we do not have to do anything different with our billing or credit card, because by the way I read the first one, I thought I was going to have to cancel and rejoin. He also said that no one has been handling customer service for a couple of weeks now so things are really backed up."
Well, I have exchanged a few e-mails with the new folks and cannot say I am very happy with the attitude I am encountering. They are polite, but...

The folks at Netmodo have gone nuts. Sorry, but it is just that *&^%$ simple. A good friend of mine has a middle school Moodle site hosted by them. She is paid in full, nothing weird is going on on her site, all is as it should be (http://www.lionselearning.org). I am very familiar with this site and I know that it's so.
Hackers? Maybe, but based on recent interactions with Netmondo, I doubt it.

Well, Netmodo says they have done this to at least two of my colleagues because it was I who sent them to Netmondo to begin with. They are unhappy with me, so they nuked my colleagues' sites.
I swear, it's true. I have the e-mail to prove it.

I do not know about the Moodle money, but I am guessing you are right.
In my case, they stopped billing me, but I still should have been making a monthly payment of $2.99. I did not do so for five months. (Three of those months should have been forgiven because I sent business their way, but that's beside the point, I guess.) I thought they were billing my credit card and that I was paying each month. So, I did owe them $14.95. I guess they had a right to simply delete everything without a word of warning or an inquirey as to what was going on. That is surely hardball, but it was my own fault. My stupidity, my negligence.
I suppose that's how they can do business if that's what they want to do. After all, I did owe them almost fifteen dollars.
But suspending my colleagues' accounts? I just don't get it. That's insane.

I'm also curious why a company based in Michigan is using legalese that appears to come from somewhere in the Commonwealth of Nations. At first I thought it might be in Virginia or Massachusetts (both of which are "commonwealths"), but there's a reference to Australia in there. Maybe they think that everyone using Moodle is in Australia?
Well, after a flurry of e-mail activity, they have restored the sites.

I do not know what linkage they mean, except that I recommended Netmondo. And "the dominoes fell" does not really explain much, does it?
But maybe it was not malicious, after all. And the whole thing would have been avoided had I just been more responsible.
You cannot blame yourself for this. NetMondo is the one to blame. Your account should have nothing to do with the accounts of teaching colleagues you have referred to them. They have disappointed and embarrassed people who depend on the service they provide.
No warning notice?? Pleaaaassssssseee! Even the worst of businesses usually provide that.
Looks like the previous owners may have kept the promised Moodle donation money (unless Martin says otherwise).

I think Netmondo has not made a lot of new friends in the Moodle community, at least not recently, but maybe things will improve in the future. And some folks seem to be happy with the company.

PS: When we were late with our payment to Moodle.com (boss was out sick and could not okay the transaction), Martin just sent us an e-mail asking, "Any news? What's up?" I know when I first started looking into potential hosts a couple years ago I got the impression quickly it is a really slimy business with a lot of snake oil being sold and it requires careful research to find a legitimate and conscientious host. Many people switch hosts frequently until they find a good one.
I'm Janet the administrator at LBC Middle. I just wanted to add in my 2 cents worth. None of the problems that happened to us last week were Art's fault! NetMondo - a lady in particular - was responsible for the problems. I tried numerous times to contact them - to no avail. If it had not been for Art and this Moodle organization, I still don't think the problem would have been resolved. I'm just grateful for all that Art did and Jeff Watkins for the beautiful redesigned theme for our site. As soon as everything is finalized, I will be looking for a new host and will be sending a letter with many attachments (all of the nasty e-mails I received) to the company. No one should have been treated the way we were - and the way many of you have been.

The (public) front page for the Robotics site here at Aiken High School was on Netmondo, and today it is down. (This particular page is not a moodle one)
The teacher who is in charge of it received a bill on Friday, for an entire year. He sent back a note to ask why he was suddenly being billed for a year, and today our site is down. We are not even in arrears, nor is there apparently any connection to any other reason for this attack. We don't think they know that Art recommended that we use them. Maybe they are now widening their attack to all of Aiken.
Run, don't walk from these vicious people! We will.
It sounds like they really don't want our business. I wonder if the Robotics site is being abused by the same woman who abused ours?!
All I can say, is that they are at it again. Wonder if they will ever realize or even care?

Just today, they abused and mistreated a middle school teacher I know, doing exactly what Mary and Janet and I experienced with them a couple of months ago.

My advice is to stay away from Netmondo. Life is too short to deal with unreasonable, unprofessional, evil people.
site I can see that there are about 90 others on my server - from what I gather, large enough to make a dollar for netmondo but not as large as others.
I would agree that the people last year were evil, but I can't sit by and see the name of someone who has put a lot of effort into ensuring my site is working smoothly be trashed.
But just this week, Netmondo completely screwed over a middle school teacher here, doing exactly the same thing they had done to me and Janet Rhodes: step 1 - shut down the site without warning; step 2 - try to extort more money (this includes threats and rudeness) ; step 3 - lie about everything. Are we the only ones who have had this experience? Well, take a look at this tale of Netmondo duplicity and bad faith.
And Francesca is simply the rudest, least professional person I have ever run across. Period. I am glad she was not that way with you, but in Aiken, we spit on the ground when we say her name.

We can ask the robotics coach to post something, but I can tell you that he left Netmondo when they did all the same things Art mentioned them doing to Janet. There was absolutely no prior warning, and he had had no issues with them until those things just started happening. He is a very patient person, but Netmondo's lack of professionalism and just normal human courtesy was incredible!
I am with Art. These are risky people to do business with, when these really nice people who have done nothing to deserve it get treated this badly, with absolutely no warning. Why take the risk? There are lots of very reputable hosts out there.
But maybe they will not have a problem. Who knows?
Pat (robotics coach) might want to post something here and/or here to help others avoid the problems he and his students had.
For better or for worse, I hope everyone involved gets what he or she deserves and I apologize to anyone to whom I recommended this company.
