You have to activate the Algebra and TeX filters.
Site Administration --> Modules --> Filters
Making TeX to work may need more help I cannot help on that point.

Actually, I have to suggest you look at ASCIIMath, either as per page js or as filter. On a per page basis it doesn't force filtering of every page like the tex filter does, its quick, and its easy.
