Maybe you should contact Marc http://moodle.org/user/view.php?id=111118&course=1 (send him a message) - he may as well have a htmlarea version of storytelling. File lib/editor/neweditor_readme has some advice how to change settings of toolbar. If the module was originally written for tinymce you may need to change the code that gets arguments for toolbar buttons from database...still if you are changing the code of third party activities the best address to ask is the original writer of that acticity.
