BACKUP-Restore NIGHTMARE

Hi ALL,

We are backing up courses from 1.6.5 and restoring them on 1.8.4
The nightmare is when you get many links broken and pictures broken.
The issue is that in the link, you have the id of the backed up course. And when this course is restored, its taking a new id which is thus causing the link to break!!!!

We have done the backup restore and till now spent soo many hours trying to fix the 600 courses!!!

Hope theres a fix for this.

Thank you for your help,
amer

Amer,

I've heard of a few people having this issue, but it sounds to me like the following occurred:

-You backed up all courses on your 1.6 site.

-You restored all courses on your 1.8 site.

What works better is if you backup the database and restore that, and then you don't have to do any restores. It's all done at one time. This also keeps all ids the same, keeping image links, resources, etc all intact and ready to go. Just make sure that when you do the restore that you also point the new installation at your moodle data directory! smile

Hope this helps! Best of luck!!
