You may also be able to use the database editor to delete rows in moodle_forum_dicussions
but that would leave trailing posts, rows in
moodle_forum_posts without parents.
These parent-less posts would still appear when you searched probably, with disasterous results perhaps? I am sure I am going to want to delete a lot of stuff at once one day.
