This is definitely something in which we are interested.
Our university has a portal which has a Moodle button on its frontpage. Once an user is authenticated through the portal, it'd sure be nice if they could just click and bring up the Moodle frontpage without having to re-enter their login credentials.
I'm a bit confused, though.
You mentioned something about possible rewrites of the authentication process in version 2.
With which version is your patch/process designed to work?
We are currently running v2.2.
