I am running 1.9 and I wondered how to get the counter to stop counting down if a student selects "Save without Submitting."
It is kind of useless to save the attempt only to come back later and find out your time has elapsed.

As it was explained to me, the timer simply begins a countdown when the quiz is opened, and counts down to zero. There is no way to put the timer on hold. So in this sense, the "SAVE WITHOUT SUBMITTING" does not work as it would seem. It does not interrupt the clock.
