In moodle 'til 1.8 I could mark an assignment as "bonus" which left the points for the assignment out of the average in the grading view.
Unfortunatly in moodle 1.9 I can't find this function under the overwhelming possibilities of the new gradebook.
Please can someone help?
I will try this.
For the first time, I need to post a reply on a Moodle board...
The gradebook for version 1.9 is absolutely disgusting. I don't know who had the brilliant idea to set it up this way, but it's made my courses a mess and I've spent hours trying to get the grades back to where they were in 1.8.
I think we just may go back to 1.8. Performance improvements are noticeable, but it's not worth the hassle.
I realize that it was overly emotional. After two or three hours of trying to figure out category totals and get everything to match what I had before, I was just so frustrated and close to restoring the server to 1.8.
It would not be as big of a deal if I waited another three weeks to upgrade, but since I give multiple choice final exams with Moodle, I wanted to see the performance increase in action before the end of the academic year.
I see that there are users out there besides me having 1.9 problems, too. At least I'm not alone... I appreciate your reply. I'll be fine. Thanks,
In 1.8, we could simply check a box for a whole category to be extra credit. I think that is what Pete is referring to. (see image)
I plead for a step by step guide on how to do this. I expect that we will have a large number of faculty asking the same question in a short time!
Here is my problem relative to the gradebook.
I wanted to create an item called "Bonus" and add a maximum of .6 to those who earned a bonus. So, someone could actually end up with 100.6 overall points. But Moodle wants to always convert this to a percent, so someone who did not get bonus might end up with 100 points (a perfect 100%), but Moodle wants to calculate this person's grade as 100/100.6, or 99.4%. This .6% difference could drop some students into a lower grade category, since the letter grades are always based upon percentages, not points.
I have looked for a fix and tried numerous things, but have not been able to get this to work. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Extra credits do NOT work with percentage based aggregations at this point in time as far as I have been able to tell.
hope this helps. It is not a solution... I think there are LOT of people that would like extra credits to work 'out of the box' with percentage based aggregations.
