Just a couple of suggestions (from my experience of using the forums of Moodle.org):
We're planning on using Moodle in the School / Local Education Authority arena, and my experience of teachers' use of email suggests that most don't have the time to read / sift the number of messages that most of us who use these Forums probably do. Hence...
- it would make a lot of sense to be notified / sent copies of responses to the Topic that I started / contributed to, rather than that entire forum
- following on from this, it would be good to make the notification options drop-down list default to "Send me copies of messages in this Topic" or (if that is absent) "Do not send me anything" rather than the default "Send me this entire forum" option, which swamps me (and I'm s'posed to have the time to read it!)
- Another observation is that if I post a topic, select "None" for my 'notification' options and then go back to Edit my post, the notification options slip back to "This entire forum" - sneaky! Is there a way of making this setting 'sticky' on either the client or server side?
- Could this be set as a preference for one user for a whole Moodle site - as in " I never want email copies" or "I always want email copies"
