The Moodle gradebook in versions 1.5 - 1.8 (and probably earlier) will show the grade report for a single student as one very long line of information. Wen Hao Chuang wrote a modification for Gradebook Plus for Moodle 1.5 to display the data as a manageable number of columns with one assignment or category per line. Based on Wen's original work I have rewritten this to work with Gradebook Plus v2 for Moodle 1.8. I believe this should be considered for a standard part of the gradebook module in Moodle versions 1.6 - 1.8.
Darren Smith opened a Moodle Tracker issue for this in March of 2006 at:
It has not seen any action. I updated his entry today including screen shots of the default display (Standard_View.jpg) and my modified display (New_View.jpg) along with a copy of the modified lib.php based on the lib.php from Gradebook Plus v2 for Moodle 1.8.
Please take a minute to review the two views and, if you think this modification should be included in the core gradebook, vote for the bug.
Richard - Thanks for your work on the patch and for advocating for this change. It makes sense to make better use of the real estate on the screen not to go out wide for single student. You've got my vote. Peace - Anthony
