Please, could anybody explain to me, how I have to configure Gradebook in order to meet the following requirements:
* I have a course with 12 lessons; each student should see at a glance, how many percent of each lesson he or she has reached.
* Each lesson has 2 moodle-quizzes, one worth 40% of the whole lesson, the other one 20%; there are 4 hotpot-exercises, each worth 10% of the whole lesson. All these 6 items are in on category for each lesson.
What I did was: I set the maximum grade to 40, respectivly 20 %. For the hotpots: 10%. I understood, that this maximum grade does this scaling.
What happend was: a student did a hotpot-exercis and gained 100% for that. In the "grader views" he is displayed with 100% for the exercise which is ok, but 16,67 % for the category-total!!!!! So the scaling didn't work; instead it gave one sixth of 100 % which is 16,67%.
Do I have to use weights to do this?
Thanks for your help!
Gerhilde - Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. Were you able to figure out how to get it working. I'm not clear exactly what it is that you are looking for in part because the word lesson usually refers to a specific type of Moodle activity that is called lesson. However, as I understand your post, when you use lesson you are referring to a topic section of a course which contains multiple activities that you group together into a category in the gradebook. In so far as I understand you, I would create the first quiz and make it worth 40 points and the other one worth 20 points. I would make the hotpot exercises worth 10 points each. That means that for each category you will have 100 points. I'm not sure if this is what you did - the % signs confused me. I'm not sure what you mean by the maximum grade doing the scaling. If a student gets a 100% on a hotpot exercise worth 10 points he will have 10 points. I do not think you have to use weights. Let me know if this helps or confuses you (or both of us further) or if you have further questions. Peace - Anthony
