Irish name

Irish name

We have a student with the name O'Brien which with a forename of Alex and year of entry 2004 we create a logon of 'ao'brien04' on the Windows 2003 server.

Unfortunately Moodle seems to have an anti Irish bias and will not allow the " ' "

Is there a way around this?

Hi Maxwell,

If you enable the extendedusernamechars setting in Administration > Security > Site policies then Moodle will allow non-alphanumeric characters in usernames.

Actually, if the person is really Irish, her name is then "Ó Brien". Typing it 'properly' might solve your problem. Otherwise, just drop the apostrophe.

"O' Brien" is an anglicization of the Irish name.
