I have been trying to think of a way to provide access to the course files folder. I can see that some other moodlers use samba. Has anyone used davenport to provide web access to the smb shares?

I'm hoping that the samba configuration could be automated so that the smb share names are the real course short names taken from the moodle database. this could be accessed from within our college network. then use davenport to provide web access to the shares...

I'm not a developer and only have limited knowledge of samba (no knowledge of davenport). I'm trying to see if this is a feasible solution before asking our IT team to spend time on this.

I'm particularly interested on how secure the above setup would be and if it would have any performance imprecations for our moodle server.
