I am using Bluehost's shared hosting service to run Moodle 1.8. The server has 4 dual core processors and every account on the shared hosting plan has a fixed level of cpu cycles which is 40 cpu cycles per 60 second sliding window. My Moodle is up and running, However it exceeds the cpu level at times when I have 30 concurrent users doing a variety of things in a course. I am using the standard installation and I am disapointed with this. This means that I will only be able to use Moodle with half of my class at any given time. I asked bluehost to upgrade my account to one with more cpu cycles and they have told me they will once a server is ready which could take some a few weeks.
Is there anything in Moodel that can be optimized to help with this issue? Is there a hosting provider other then a dedicated server that can be used to suit my medicocre needs? Would running Moodle 1.5 be better? Any and all advise is appreciated.
