I am new to the Moodle community and hope to get help from the experts.
Moodle pages take between 1 minute and 5 minutes to load. To open moodle/index.php takes well over one minute to open. I hope someone can provide insight to improving this performance.
My configuration is:
Intel Core2 T7200 2.00ghz 2gb RAM
Microsoft Vista Business edition
Processor performance readings:
1gb RAM utilization with CPU utilization never more than 56%
I first tried to install Apache, MySql and PHP using the windows installation documentation found on the Moodle website. While I was able to install each of the components successfully and could test each separately, I was never able to get MySql data to appear on my php page with IE7. So I uninstalled all of the applications and used the XAMPP 1.6.3a installation found at http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html#521
The installation went onto my laptop with no issues.
I copied the Moodle folder from the Moodle Windows installation into the root of my Apache web directory.
I opened http://localhost/moodle and went through the installation steps with no errors (This took approximately 2 hours to complete.
After successfully completing the install, I have been able to open http://localhost/moodle and login as administrator. The process takes between 2 and 5 minutes to complete. I was finally able to add a new course and users after about an hour or more waiting for the pages to open.
I do not experience these delays when accessing moodle pages across the Internet. I hope that someone can help with the slow loading issues as I would like to learn more about developing moodle courses and demonstrating the capabilities at department meetings where I do not have Internet access.
