To bring down to a simpy denominator, if you work with backup files, u can always go back if something goes wrong. The second argument ist, you have a fresh, clean system and clean database, where you can make your modification without any disturbance.

All information you need are stored in the backup files. I make a trick for me or for our customers. Make one course without any content and catch all user in this course. The risk to lost or leave anyone goes to zero! Be carfeull about meta courses and select the things u need, like user files etc. Note in both cases what kind of blocks, modules, 3rd party plugins or hacks, otherwise can grow up some problems!
