Hi everybody,

you can find a new plugin to include mathematics in Moodle.
WIRIS Plugin for Moodle

You will be able to integrate WIRIS tools:
  • Equation editor (WIRIS Editor) WYSIWYG, MathML based
  • Calculation tool (WIRIS CAS) on-line calculations for education
WIRIS CAS is available in English, French and Spanish but also Catalan, Estonian, Dutch, Italian and Vasque language.

If you interested in a math chat please check ours at www.wiris.com/demo/moodlemoot/conference/ (install not integrated in Moodle).

WIRIS tools are basically Java applets. You need to install Java as a user, not in the Moodle server.

I install Java , but not create image. I install in localhost .

It is not clear to me if you have finally solved your problems. If the answer is NO here goes a hint.

You might have a problem with moodle/config.php file. That file should NOT have line breaks at the end. This is mentioned in the file comments.

If you have an unnecessary line break one of the collateral effects is that you cannot see the images generated with WIRIS Editor.

Hi,

Wiris was working fine on my localhost but now when I have done the same process with my online server. Its creating problem that is image is not being displayed. When I edit the created equation it renders the image in wiris editor but again if i change some thing in equation it is not being displayed.

Please help me to resolve this issue.

Hello,

I've tested Wiris Plugin on my moodle in local. It works very well.

In the configuration file, I use the Image Service provided at wiris.com website.

You say that Wiris editor is a commercial product.

Does it mean that in the future it will be impossible to use the Image Service provided at wiris.com ?

The image service will be obviously possible to use as a commerial service.

As a FREE service we might offer it. We want to see how does the Moodle community react to our tools. We will make our best.

Morning, I have installed Wiris plugin for Moodle for the formula editing, but the images do not show. How do I get the Formula Image service working?

Hi all!
I install wiris in localhost, I do exact follow wiris guilde. When I used url of wiris image service:$CFG->wirisimageservicehost='services.wiris.com';
it's work OK. Then I replace url by: $CFG->wirisimageservicehost='localhost';
Image not show.can you help me where can I download file java to render mathML to image?

Dear Nguyen,

I am Ramon Eixarch from Maths for More, the company behind WIRIS tools.

You don't have to download the java file to render MathML to image. That service always lives in wiris.com or wiris.net servers.

We only offer big clients (like universities) the possibility to install the rendering service in their server.

If you want a tool that can reside on your server and transform text expressions to mathml you can install asciimathml. You will find links on the Mathematics page of the Moodle documentation site.

Wiris breaks the switch (<>-button) from WYSIWYG-mode to HTML-mode in Moodle 1.8 and 1.9.1. Once you have used the button, you cannot switch into HTML-mode for a second time.
