I notice that files in the site files area can now be backed up if they are linked to from within a question (If I have interpreted MDL-10559 correctly). I wondered if this could be extended to backup/restore and import so that there is an option only to include files that are linked to. This would be great when using this functionality selectively where the entire contents of the course files area is not required.

I agree. A more selective question backup is needed. I backed up a quiz with a single question the other day and got a 5MB backup file. I had to go into the zip and delete all the unrelated course files. Question backup is also taking unrelated categories and possibly other things -- I forget what else.
