Hi Sarah,

              if you use activities linking  wich is not a standard Moodle feature, your new certificate module  will appear in the course page:

            dimmed ( ghosted ) before the grade was reached with the name of the quiz in ()
             and in a normal color when a sufficient grade will be reached.

It is also possible to adapt a part of the code to do that only with your new module.
