How many users? How many concurrent users? Windows or Unix? How much storage do you think you will need?
There are so many variables that determine what the 'dream' specs are.
I consider my server a dream box. I have 1,300 students with the Max user count never above 180.
For that I am running a Dual Quad 3.33ghz with 6Gig ram running on SLES 10.1 with 1TB of drive space. Nice and beefy!
But if I had a larger concurrent user count, or even more users (some have up to 100,000 users) then this would not suffice and a different architecture would be needed (e.g. multiple servers)
