My wife and I are working on a comprhensive system for getting a variety of courses from Blackboard to Moodle. They are from different institutions, different subjects, different teachers - the usual mess. Now fortunately the tools out there for this are maturing. We have moodle's built in import, we have bFREE from the North Carolina, and we have the SFSU tool - but still there are issues (I've submitted a couple of bugs about the importing of quizzes).
Part of what we're trying to do involves learning more about the xml files from BB and moodle than we ever really wanted to <grin> and how to manipulate them in the best way.
So a few quick questions:
does the URL in config.php act as the "master guide" for the renaming of URLs throughout the course during the backup and restore process?
does anyone recommend an editor that a non xml experienced person can use do do word and excel like work (specifically massive find and replaces, and autofill) without the junk msft likes to add (currently go from notepad to office and back). I'm going to try crimson editor, but would love suggestions. Notepad won't cut it when you have to find and replace in a 4mb file.
Backup and restore
Seeking clarification of role of config in backups
