Could somebody help please?
I have just downloaded Moodle1.18 and I do not see the little editing pen that help editing site summary.

If you mean that area in the middle box go first to
Administration -> Front Page -> Front Page settings and select
Include a topic section X
Go back to front page, turn editing on and it should be there.
If you mean site description, you may edit it from same place and box Front Page Description and add it as side block (from Blocks block if it is not there already.)
