Can someone advise how I could run multiple SQL databases as well as Moodle on the same server?? I am about to develop my own SQL databases for "inhouse" use but I am not sure if I can run it in parallel to Moodle.
Depending on your server or server account - you maybe allowed to set up a number of mySQL databases.
Moodle requires a mySQL database to store user and course info (at least I think that waht is does).
I current have 5 mySQL databases and 2 moodle site set up on my server.
Check with your IT dept or hosting provider as to the number of mySQL databases you are entitled to.
Once you know that - let me know and I'll help furthur.
You may not actually need another database. Depending on your hosting package, you may only be allowed one without paying more.
All of moodle's tables are prefixed with something defined in the config (default is mdl_ ). You would be able to create your tables in the same database but use a different (or no) prefix to distinguish them from each other.
