Front page roles problem

Front page roles problem

Hi there,

I was wondering in some could confirm if I've found a bug. I'm using moodle 1.8+. The front page of my install contains the default news forum which I guess is typically used for broadcasting site news.

As an unauthenticated user, I can view new items. If I log in as a test user (now an authenticated user) and try to view a post item, I'm blocked with the error message "You do not have permissions to view this post". It seems odd that an authenticated user has less front page permissions than an un-authenticated one.

If anyone has moodle 1.8+ could they please confirm if this really is a bug.

Thanks,

Stuart.

I've checked this out on three separate moodle installations now. Definitely a bug and the issue has already been logged:

This is explained in the documentation to update to 1.8.

Thanks for that pointer. I think I tried to override the permissions on the news forum itself, but I must have neglected to hit save.
