I have created MDL-9948 to deal with the poor performance of loading /mod/assignment/index.php with Moodle 18STABLE from CVS. Performance info shows:

119.101537 secs RAM: 1.7MB Included 53 files DB queries 1351 Log writes 1 ticks: 11910 user: 7344 sys: 22 cuser: 0 csys: 0 Load average: 1.85 Record cache hit/miss ratio : 0/0

I'm running on a Ubuntu 6.06 (Linux 2.6.15-28-386), Apache 2.0.55, MySQL 5.0.22, PHP 5.1.2. with APC 3.0.14.
