Hello,

I installed nwiki for 1.8. Now I can see the anothergroups entry but students couldn't edit wikis --> there is no edit tab in wiki page...

What is wrong?

I installed new release rev2007050301, but don't solved the problem: students can't edit wiki (there is no edit tab).

I'm using Moodle 1.8+ and my options in wiki are:

- students can edit the wiki content

- students can attach files to wiki content
- students can upload files to server
- students can restore an old version page
- Students can take part in discussions about page's issues

- Group Mode: Separate Groups | Students in group

I have a problem with attachments in wiki.
When i try to upload an attachment into my wiki, not into main - default download section, it doesn't inform that upload fails but only uplrejsect appears along with the note "no file uploaded yet" .

What's wrong with this?

Hi Ludo,

I can confirm that I also have the same problem. I was using the initial moodle release version of 1.8 (which at time of writing is now superseded by 1.8+), and I tried to update the wiki with the following version wiki_1.8_rev2007050301.

I am now completely stuck because if I tried to navigate to the moodle root the admin upgrade page appears and it is impossible to exit from it. I can manually type in a moodle URL to escape, but the top level remains stuck at the admin upgrade page (attached). Also if I do manually navigate to a course site and try to view a wiki, an error is thrown.

Attached is a copy of the admin upgrade page I am stuck at.

Hi Edward & Stuard,

do you really have installed old DFWiki module in your Moodle or it's an error during installation process? Some DFWiki versions and totally incompatible with NWiki. Having incompatible releases of our two modules generates problems in admin page.

Try to remove /mod/dfwiki directory or upgrade DFWiki first.

It seems to me to be an error with the instalation process. I only had eWiki up to this point. I have deleted all the nwiki folders and repeated the installation, but the same error occured.

Hi, all looks resolved now.

I deleted all wiki folders, installed the previous update for 1.8. Then I deleted the mod/wiki folder and installed the latest update. All seems to be okay now. Thank you for your help.

Group Mode: Separate Groups | Students in group

In this case students can edit and see only wiki from your group members.
It don't working to me.

No Pigui, I was using a completely fresh out the box moodle 1.8 install running on localhost. DFWiki was not installed, only the standard ewiki. I removed the ewiki wiki folder and replaced it with the nwiki wiki folder and then went to the admin page to start the install.

Hi there,

Fore the first time in three attempts over the past month I've managed to install the nwiki (almost) with no problems.

I still don't get the Continue button appearing after install, but it doesn't seem to be locking up this time. I would like to confirm the correct upgrade path from a standard moodle install with the ewiki still in place:

1. Backup everything!
2. Delete/move out the current wiki folders e.g. lang, mod etc.
3. Add in the new nwiki folders in
4. Go to the admin page and watch the upgrade happen.

Did I miss anything or do something wrong?

There are still errors/omissions in the lang file which I may try to help out with sometime (for English anyway).

Keep up the good work. I really, really want to have my students using this in 1.9!

You're doing all the steps rigth. I'm still wandering what goes wrong in your installation. Maybe something was messed up in the database in the past, who knows what ... anyway I gather that finally you succeed to install it and no data is lost... so is fair enough.
All out tests are working fine with 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 ... but we van always add a new test to the battery if you tell us your exact configuration. (We want somebody to take a look into a MS-SQL server and IIS .)
All the corrections and fixes to the lang file will be most welcome!

Hi Ludo,

I've been through the en_utf8 lang file very carefully now...

I've added in LOTS of translations for the variables missing from the last release. Some you may have patched by your team since that time. I've also made a few more corrections to existing ones.

In both cases there were a few variables that I chose not to translate because it wasn't clear to me what the applicable functionality for what was being labelled. I've indicated this in the file clearly.

Finally, I've also gone through all the existing string variable key names and looked for misspellings or lack of clarity and made suggestions where appropriate. I appreciate that making changes to actual key lookup names is slightly more work for your team. I got the impression that all key names have to be in English so I can sympathise with your team for any errors that may have cropped in. They are only suggestions and don't have to be followed, besides, they wouldn't be seen by any users of the wiki unless they dig inside your code!

All edits to the file by me are at the top of the file, but I can tidy it up in to something sensible for you if you can help with clarification on the functionality of those I didn't understand.

Please see attached and I hope you don't think too many of my changes are too pedantic

Indeed. Sorry, but without an English language spec for the dfwiki project it was difficult for me to translate everything, hence the few remaining gaps in the lang file. I have a Spanish colleague whom may be in next week and he might be able to act as translator between us if that helps???!

Hi Ludo,

I've just read one of your help files regarding "synonymous" on your morfeo.upc.es site. I now think I know what you are explain to users. I fully sympathise with you trying to translate all this stuff! Your English is VERY much better than my Spanish! However, to sort out this translation issue I should explain some English grammar. The term "synonymous" is an adjective and is used to describe words that are equivalent in meaning to each other. Such words are "synonyms", is a noun and is the term used for such words. I found your lang file confusing because I couldn't get the blocks working to see any context for these terms.
With this in mind, many of the blocks and help files might need a little editing for the English lang version. For example, the "Page Synonymous" block should be named "Page Synonyms" and it's help file changed as well. I think I can find time to help with the help files soon, although I need to work out why the blocks don't work for me before I can correct all the help files. I'll take a look at how things are after the next nwiki release and submit suggested changes based it the new released version.

Thanks for the clarification Pigui. The good news is that the page blocks have started working form me now. I am still confused as to why they weren't working before. If there suddenly disappear I'll let you know! I've just added all the block to my test installation and I'm very impressed. They are all very well implemented and the concept of "synonyms" for pages is now very clear to me. I now need to work out which would be best to use with my students!

I'll try to make time to look again through the lang file and in particular with the help files. Now I've got the blocks working I can see a few more gaps that I need to fill for you. I presume that you have help with all the other languages you need to support? If not I may be able to find speakers of other languages where I work. We have a lot if international students and staff here.

One final minor thing I noticed. The "delete page", "update page" and "clean page" icons in the Administration Tools side block didn't have background transparency set on the .gif files. The delete icon appears to be duplicated in the wiki images folder. "delete.gif" has transparency set properly, but the duplicate file "deleteB.gif" doesn't and that's the one that is being used in the admin block. Just as a suggestion, why not pull in the standard delete image from the users current theme rather than duplicate it? This will help provide a more consistent look and feel.

Attached in the zip are the update page and clean page icons with background transparency set. This is probably the right thing to do for people have themes with side-block backgrounds other than white.

One last thing I've just remembered, when I tidy the lang and help files for you, should I be removing references to "dfwiki" and instead just call it "wiki"? Isn't "dfwiki" meant to be the stand-alone activity whereas the nwiki is/will be the integrated standard moodle wiki? I don't want to take away any branding and cause offence especially after all your hard work. Is this something for Marc and Martin to decide? I hope you understand why I ask.

This is my first time to take a serious look at Nwiki - I'm setting up a site that will be part of our strategic planning process and I think that collaboration will be a very large part of what we'll want to do.

I haven't gotten all the way through all the features, but a few things that I've noticed, and some feature requests:

Under the administration tab, the 'Disable Edition' feature doesn't seem to work - you get the question to confirm disable page edition, but clicking Yes only refreshes the page and does not seem to update the database.
Speaking of disable edition, could this be set for an entire wiki in it's settings? This would be VERY nice for enforcing deadlines on a project.
Under the administration tab, Wiki to PDF doesn't give me any pages to select for conversion.

the disable edition only disables edition for the student roles. The teacher still can edit the pages.
About the second point you can ungrant the edit rigth to the students when you wish in the wiki settings (edit from course)

Actually there are TWO ways of seing this information in NWiki.
This one and this other one They are accessed as tabs when you visualice a old edit (accessed from page history)
We do this like Mediawiki does. We could place a link in the history page, but would be unclear what are you comparing.

This is great, but has one problem. It doesn't seem to work properly.

It looks like the comparison between an old page and the current one works, but the comparison between two old pages doesn't work. That is when you click on any of the page edition numbers it simply redraws the same page (in the example above Comparing version 69 with 88)

It would be great if the features in Nwiki, which are mostly excellent, worked reliably.

while we are listing bugs,

moodle contributions are still not showing up in the 'complete activity report' for each user.

and when the pages did show (a number of versions ago) the links didn't work.

it would be great if the correct links to pages edited were listed in the activity reports.

the "pdf thing" reported by Matt occurs if you choose HTML editor to edit the pages. The HTML editor pages aren't avaliable to PDF export (only those edited with Nwiki editor). angry

I was so excited to read about this upcoming feature! Unfortunately, now that I am using latest Moodle 1.8 and the latest Nwiki (as of May 24, 2007) I don't see any pages available to export and I am using the nwiki editor. I made a new "tester" wiki to make sure everything was created in the nwiki editor and still no pages available

Suggestions?

Full PDF export is comming next week. We need a specific renderer for each wiki markup ( ewiki, html editor, old dfwiki , and nwiki (full mediawiki)).
Wait till Thursday.

I just got this error when I clicked on the 'wikis' breadcrumb in one of my courses.

It still displays ok, I just have error reporting turned up.

NWiki DEVELOPMENT documentation.

Hi there,
as I said before here NWiki has a new layer more structured and easier to use and maintain. The new release just issued of NWiki is running this API.
We have documented the api and is available here in PHPDOC format.

HI Dmitry,
I knew that you would like it.

We are currently working in the documentation, because we have commented the whole api, but I wanted to make public only the new structured one. I'm waiting for the documentation of a second layer, the visualization layer that speaks (html strict) then I'll publish the a more stable ZIP.

maybe you want to join us in the Sourceforge DFwiki project
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dfwiki
We use it for daily work and as a firewall cause I don't want students to frag things up. But latest things are done here.
If you need more documentation we have all the api documented in a closed space, still a lot of sorting and catalog work to do thougth, that's why is not public yet.
Any contributions will be most welcome
