How can we disable or hide the forum module all together?

Oddly enough under Modules, the hide icon is missing!

So, my question would be--why would you want to? thoughtful Forums are really the heart of Moodle and have so much to offer. smile And, even if you aren't ready to use them right now, you can choose to just not incorporate them into a course--no need to remove them entirely.

Not a PHM :-)
Re: Hide/Disable the forum Module

Just open the mdl_modules table in your database and change the visible value for forums from 1 to 0. This works in 1.5 and 1.6......not sure about higher versions.

This is brilliant I am so very glad after hours of reading the forums I can across this simple piece of advice. It seems to have worked in 2.2

Thanks x

Re: Hide/Disable the forum Module

Hello, I am using moodle 2.9 and have changed the 1 to zero in afd_modules but I am still seeing the "search forums" block in the student screen. Is there a different solution for ver 2.9 please?

Group Particularly helpful Moodlers

That will hide the forums, not the 'Search Forums' block. To hide that, go to Site Admin > Plugins > Blocks > Manage Blocks and click on the eye icon next to the 'Search Forums' block.
