Importing questions

Importing questions

Is it possible to import questions to the testbank in XML or GIFT so that they go straight into a particular category?

I've got a lot of questions to import and they are all mixed up by subject or difficulty and I would like to be able to offer students separate quizzes split by subject or difficulty. The only way I can see to do it is split the questions up before importing, and then import them into a particular category. This would be really time consuming, does anyone have any better ideas?

Hi Charlotte,

You have to split them either on Moodle in different categories after import in one category or create first the number of necessary empty categories in Moodle and import the questions in each of them.

Where your questions are coming from?

They were originally part of a book that the publishers now want to put online. So there are quite a few of them!

Thanks for the advice

The latest versions of 1.7 (and newer) have the ability to specify the category in the XML or GIFT file. You can switch the category as often as you like.

The help page explains how it works, but if you need more help let use know:

GIFT:

(right at the end)

XML:
