User Pictures gone after upgrade-

I upgraded from 1.1 to 1.2.1 and everything went fine except that my user pictures are no longer showing up- I've gone through the forums for potential solutions and this is what I've tried so far:
-made sure GD was installed (version 2.0)
-made sure the pictures were still in my moodledata directory
-made sure my config file was correctly pointing to my moodledata correctly
-tried accessing the pictures with slash arguments on and off

Anyone have other ideas as to what I can try or other information I can provide that might have any clues?? I am running on Apache 1.3.27, PHP 4.3.0 and MySQL 3.23.43- any insight is greatly appreciated. Any idea what could have happened in the installation process?

Thanks much,
Christopher

IF you are using a Windows platform, for example  EasyPHP1-7, then try to change the backslashes in your config file for the dirroot and the datadir paths from backslashes in forwardslashes.

Thanks Ger- I'm actually on Redhat Linux, so the backslashes should be correct The confusing thing is that it was working before I did the upgrade, and I'm using the same config file that I had before- I'll work on it today some more and post if I get it solved, in the meantime, any other ideas are appreciated.
