Am very tempted now just to go ahead and update our College's live version to 1.8, am a little worried about brining bugs in but then again the loss of guest access has been a massive problem for us over the last couple of weeks so I think it might be worth it.
Little things changing, like the loss of access, really dent the confidence of our users - especially when it can't quickly be fixed. It makes defending use of open source software in the College much much more difficult.
