This will be my first Update and so I have some questions. At the moment I have moodle 1.1. I downloaded it around August 2003. I did not use CVS and I wanted version 1.2 to be declared stable before I update.
In the last month I was not here very often, because of lack of time, so my informations are not up to date.
Therefore some questions:
I read the upgrading guide. I thought moodle will separate now more strict between content and layout, is upgrading then really so easy? Should I choose a standard layout from moodle 1.1 before upgrading?
I looked at the list of optional modules. I'm missing the Webquest module. I am really keen on it, because I do a lot of Webquests with my students. Is this included?
I saw on the Optional modules site the filters to. There I found the mathematic filters and the mediaplugin. On the Frontpage of moodle I understood, that they are integrated in moodle 1.2. So must I download and install the filters or are they already included in 1.2?
Somewhere I fell about a calendar. If I'm right it was told, that moodle 1.3 will come out in a few weeks with this calendar. What means some weeks? If this means about two months, I would wait with updating so that I do not have work for two times.
Thanks in advance for your answers,
Greetings from Bavaria,
Here's what I know:
Re: 1 - Yes, upgrading is so easy As far as the graphical theme is concerned, you do not have to revert back to the default theme before the upgrade, provided the theme you're using is also present in Moodle 1.2. That is, if you are using a custom theme, you should upgrade your theme before visiting the the admin page.
Re: 3 - AFAIK filters are included in the main distribution, but they are off by default (which is very sensible, because having them all on would cause great, and probably unnecessary, load on the server) You can turn them on from the admin menu (look for "Filters")
Re: 4 - Well, some weeks means some weeks, nothing more, nothing less. It could mean two weeks, or 15. Anything can happen that will influence the actual release date. See this thread about the release of 1.2.
Webquest is not part of 1.2. I am not even sure that it is developed into something usable (sorry, if I am wrong -> I would then like to use it!!)
The release date for 1.3 in the future document is the 31st of March. However Prem is right not to call that a promise. If I were you, and were a bit nervous about updating, I would wait for 1.3.
