Following tips in this forum, I have tried increasing max_execution_time and raise_memory_limit in backup.php and restore.php, but to no avail.
In fact, the scheduled backup now doesn't get as far as it did before. It was getting to "zipping files" but now gets to Phase 2/Modules/data.
However, the backup works just fine when I do it from the Admin block.
