Need Help with uploading options and other things.

I continue to have a problem with Moodle 1.2 when it comes to uploading files? I get the following error messages:

Warning: move_uploaded_file([My site directory]/moodledata/2//link.txt): failed to open stream: Permission denied in (My site directory)/index.php on line 124

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpqFoPxY' to '(My site directory)/moodledata/2//link.txt' in (My site directory)/index.php on line 124

How can I fix this problem?

Also whenver I try to unenroll a student from a class I get a message saying, "

That's an invalid user id

Help??

Your "$CFG->dataroot" line might have a trailing slash at the end ([your site directory]/moodledata/)..if so, please get rid of it. I hope this helps.

Also, you need to make sure your dataroot directory has the right permissions to allow Moodle (ie the web server) to write files in there.

In Unix you can use the chmod command eg

chmod 777 yourpath/moodledata

If you can't do this, your local sysadmin may have other ways set up (ask them!)

I looked through my config.php for any unnecessary slashes and I didn't see any. But I am still in the process of learning PHP, and Martin I know that my folder needs to have the ability to upload files, but how to check I don't know.

I use Microsoft frontpage to edit my website and folders, is there anyway I can make sure that the folder can upload with frontpage?

Sorry if I am being a dummy I really am just learning.

Also, Any suggestions about the, invalid user id thing is about? In case it helps understanding these problems that I am having I never had them with Moodle 1.1

Hi Nicole,

I had the same problem.

As Martin said, it is a permission issue.

Do you have access to your site via the server? Can you access it using an FTP program (WS_FTP)? If so log into your site using either way and navigate to the ([My site directory]/moodledata/2 directory. Check the properties of your 2 directory and change them to 777 if needed.

I know there is a way to access the permission using FP - but i can't remember... sorry.

Alright! I got the uploading problem fixed thank you everyone, all I had to do was change the folder permissions to 777 like every suggested big grin

But I am still having the problem that whenever I try to unenroll a student or get an activity report I get the message:

That's an invalid user id

User ID is incorrect

Any ideas???
