I'm having a bit of difficulty wrapping my head around the new roles system. Maybe someone can shed some light. I'm trying to create a Help Desk user who can walk into any course but not edit the resources. The first thing I did was to allow the new role to "view courses". Now, when I assign a user to this role and "login as" this user, all is well. However if I actually logout as administrator and log back in as this user, the permissions are not applied. This happens in both 1.7 and 1.7.1. I'm clearly doing something wrong, so I'd appreciate if someone could point out what exactly that is.
