My free host was doing excellent but it does not offer smtp. too bad. Any hosting you recommend? Im looking for something cheap above all. And would like to have 3 dabatabases and at least 3 subdomains in one domain. Thanx for the help. I have googled for hosting and found siteground to give hosting with moodle installed; but 5u$ per month for 2 years is not a very good deal.
Also i wonder about the capability to host an online academy of 500 students and 50 teachers. Is that possible with the features of the ultimate package? or is a dedicated server a more appropriate solution?
i am looking forwar to your thoughts
Any other option?
The requirements for Moodle are far from zero. Say 25 users doing an online exam (quiz module) can overload a "Giga" computer. By Giga I mean 1 GHz Intel-equivalent machine with 1 GByte RAM running some out-of-the-box Linux without GUI, without tuning.
Ask your "free" provider about the equivalent "Giga power" of their (virtual) server before you invest your time!
If you don't believe the bad news, do some reading in this forum for the ever repeating story of providers "surprised" at what Moodle requires and even turning the sites off! May be you can afford that with a free site, definitely not with real customers ;(
Surprisingly this business is similar to thermodynamics: You can get 100% efficiency, at output levels approaching zero!
Quote of the day for me
Robert ... suggestion for you - if you desire free hosting, maybe you would be better installing Moodle on your own machine and hosting it from home. Why not try it and see how you go. I for one would be interested in how you manage your own hosting, the issues, and the success. It may assist others in doing the same - free hosting of their own environments.
I am not certain what field you are in, however would you offer free services indefinitely within your field of speciality, your time and effort to the world?
Moving packets of information around the world costs$ and someone must contribute to sustaining that environment.
Can you please let me know what your freehost is?
We have recently launched a completely free Moodle hosting option.
You can visit http://www.freemoodle.org and have a look around the documentation, read about why this has been created, its aims, and then join the community area.
One of the few conditions is that your course should be open for others, and you can't charge for the course. So it's free Moodle hosting, for courses that are free for others. You can however separate your own students from the public by using Groups and Groupings (an example might be for using Assignments) and we're writing a guide on how to do this now.
This service does have some (understandable) conditions, but does come with the full backing of a Moode Partner (so it's not going to disappear overnight!), and no catches. We think this is a really important development, and are looking for people who want to help too.
Check it out ! (and maybe get involved?)
We are non-profit graduate schools with limited programs/courses and students.
There is no problem for others to see the course contents like other openwares offered at MIT and many other schools.
But our enrolled students and their learning activities are under US's privacy law protection. My question to you is is if we can use your site for our internal uses.
As Dan says there is no issue from our side for you to use FreeMoodle.org like this
Grades for a Student would not be revealed to others for example - thats just standard Moodle functionality.
Note that your Teachers can separate their personal Students activities from others by using the Groups and Groupings feature in Moodle. We've created a tutorial on how this can be used in this way:

And you don't have a reseller account because you like paying more, or you do have a reseller account and just forgot to mention that?
Hi Marc Grober,
I Dont have reseller webhosting account. I have 4 Main accounts with different add-on domains under them. I don't think i am paying more. The expense is worth for their service.
