Considered your input and decided to stay with Moodle 1.6.x and install nwiki for that version. Upon install we receive may 'success' message but the final message says,
wiki tables could NOT be set up successfully!

(mysql): SELECT * FROM mdl_user WHERE id = '1' AND username = 'guest' LIMIT 1
Not sure what to do from here.
