Interesting that it says 'New discussion topic' here.
Anyway - our version of Moodle (1.7) has a forum button saying 'Add a new topic' but the 'topics' are in a list headed 'Discussions'. I know it's a bit pedantic, but it would really help me if I could change this to be more consistent - don't mind if I change the button to 'Discussion' or the heading to 'Topics'. Looked around the conf modules stuff but can't find anything - any suggestions?

Have you tried Admin|Configuration|LANGUAGE|eDIT STRINGS|forum.php?

Frances,
That sounds promising - unfortunately I could only get as far as Language - clicking edit strings gave me:
ERROR: Could not create directory /moodledata/lang/en
- our technician is on it, but do you have any suggetions?
