I'm having a strange problem. While most of the courses on our site are backed up automatically, I've noticed that some aren't. There isn't even a 'backupdata' folder in the folder structure associated to the course. When I attempt to do a manual backup, I get the following error message:
"Cannot quickly initialize page: empty course id"
Can anybody help us out? We need to make a backup copy of the course urgently to be able to restore it without user data for the start of the next quarter.

Go to course settings and fill in the "Course ID".the backup usually has the following naming convention: "backup-courseID-fulldate-time.zip"

Thanks a lot for your quick response, Amer. I don't think this is the cause of the problem, though. For one thing, all the other courses that can be backed up without problems don't have any ID number, either. The information you get in the help window for the ID number says:

At any rate, I introduced an ID number for that course just to make sure and it still cannot be backed up. I do get a name for the backup file when the process starts (backup-s6_2005-20070105-1352.zip). The problem is that the process never finishes and I get the error message ("Cannot quickly initialize page: empty course id").
I don't know whether this can give some clue to somebody to help us solves the problem but the process always stops at the same point:

Course ID Number
The ID number of a course is only used when matching this course against external systems - it is never displayed within Moodle. If you have an official code name for this course then use it here ... otherwise you can leave it blank.

Is this course larger than all the other courses? If yes, you have to increase the max_execution variable in the php.ini file.
Are you backing up the course from the admin side?
Permissions on the directory in which the backup is taking place?
Am just thinking aloud...

Thanks again for your help. I've managed to solve the problem (well, some moodlers in a different forum suggested a solution). It turns out that the problem was caused by some non-standard modules (dfwiki and feedback). Once I deleted the activities from these modules, the backup could be completed without any problems. I don't know exactly what the problem is with these modules, but that's what was causing the problem with the backups.

I dont have non-standard modules. Good to know ahead of time that they dont get backed up...

Well, it's not as simple as that. There must be some other problem going on. Many people have non-standard modules and they get backed up without any problems. We ourselves have had non-standard modules for a long time and we never had problems before. We are trying to investigate what's going on but we haven't found out yet.

I have problems with the back ups, this a copy of the process that is not completed.
Does any one knows which are the modules that affect the back ups?
Any suggestios?
