I haven't really had time to look into this any further, but had already tried the onblur method with no success... I may be able to get it work in our school by lowering the security settings for our moodle install, but it would loose all functionality outside of the school site... Not really ideal...
I whole heartily agree with you that it is really annoying when a web designer decides that they know best! However this IT teacher has really got a bee in his bonnet about being able to do this. I would be happier if he accepted the way that Moodle works already, and changed his ideas to accommodate it. However getting some teachers to accept change can be a rather long and tiresome process!!
