I am having the same issue. Students can be enrolled on more than one course.
I wish to see all the grades by student across their courses, not a gradebook bound by the scope of 1 course, and therefore having a students grades distributed in different gradebooks. Maybe the central database in v1.8 will have exporting features to see all grades for a class regardless of the variety of courses enrolled in.
