This new lounge seems like a cool place to chill out -- the interior designer did a great job.

Is something wrong? Why are you all staring at me like that? Oops, sorry... I didn't realise I was sitting in Martin's favorite chair. blush

Perhaps a little music would ease the tension. Let's see what songs are available on the jukebox...

'In The Moodle' by the Glenn Miller Band; 'I'm A Yankee Moodle Dandy' by James Cagney; 'Fly Me To The Moodle' by Frank Sinatra. I can see a musical differences argument on the horizon. thoughtful

Maybe the jukebox idea was not so good after all. But first, there's one classic track that I really have to play...

'Should I Stay Or Should I Go?' by The Clash.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for the jukebox?

Dangerous Mood by BB King.
What I Doodle-oodle-oo by Doris Day.
The lounge is lovely but it's kind of empty. Perhaps insated of online users, we could have avatars come and sit on the sofas. It would be interesting to see who sits next to whom.

'By the Way' Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

New users who wish to start a new topic might not realise that they need to enrol on the 'Lounge' course. It took a little while for me to fathom out why I wasn't seeing a 'start a new topic' button.

So how do we implement this juke box with the tools that we have at our disposal (glossary, database, WIKI, ??)

The interesting thing about the jukebox is that you don't have to implement it. You just have to imagine it.

Come on, you guys are too pessimistic! wink My vote is for "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke."

Except we change it to "I'd Like to Give the World Moodle." Otherwise, the song works as it is.

My most recent creation (these days I only get time to make music on long international flights, this one was from US and New Zealand last June):

What do you have?
What should you use?
What do you need?
What do you not need?

What have you got?
What should you lose?
What do you need?

An excellent piece of music, Martin, you're a very talented songwriter and performer. It's not often that I like a piece of music the first time that I hear it, but 'What do you not need' hit the spot for me straight away. And I agree 100% with the message of the lyrics.

Like you, I too like to dabble in songwriting and recording, though I have to admit that my productions tend to be a little rough and ready. Here's a song I wrote which has a vaguely constructivist philosophy...

I know your name
But I don't know who you are

The thoughts you have and the things you do
And everything that happens to you

That's who you are

A two line telegram on an empty chair
What are you going to say to all the weeping widows?
You'll be there, living and learning
Because that's who you are

The thoughts you have and the things you do
And everything that happens to you

That's who you are

(The lyrics continue in a similar vein).

Cool, I love hearing home-made music. approve I hope more people can post personal recordings here!

This one from you reminds me a little of Robyn Hitchcock, and a lot of Friday night jamming with my friends in the 90's. I know how much fun it can be laying down something like this. (If I was mixing this I'd be very tempted to mix the guitar down a little and bring your vocals out more. smile)

(And thants for the kind words. Note that I'm not playing all the instruments on that track, they're mostly taken from loop libraries. I chose them, chopped them up, tweaked, arranged, mixed. Any performing is limited to the vocals, some keyboards, and some sound effects (recorded in a hotel room in Baltimore)).

Although Tony Wilmore said we could just imagine the jukebox, it seems to me that we are stacking up disks for it already. How about we have the M3 (Moodle MultiMedia Juke box) where participants contribute music, images, video clips to a collaborative glossary with a random entry block on the lounge front page? We could then just reach over from the sofa and play the track of the day.
A spot of cyberstalking has revealed that Tony Wilmore has other goodies stashed on his web page wink

The reason I suggested an imaginary jukebox was mainly because of the dire legal implications of offering an online jukebox full of famous tunes for which record companies hold the copyright.

However, we're now onto material for which individual forum members hold the copyright, and hey-presto, the legal issues disappear (assuming that members consent to their creations being put online).

Your idea about a collaborative glossary sounds very interesting and practical. Perhaps extend it to include any creative artefact, including written work.

OK Tony we're ready to go in the Moodle MultiMedia Jukebox.
If you and Martin could post your music we can get started. All others welcome too.

Nice idea! Can we have some categories? I can imagine it would get quite cluttered without them-music, poetry, photo.

And can we add recipes to this? big grin Category: recipe.

Ola Ray

by chanel n -
In the music industry, Ola Ray is making headlines, which is odd because no one knows who Ola Ray is. Well, she was the actress that starred in the music video to the classic Michael Jackson song, Thriller, from the album of the same name. She has filed a lawsuit against Michael Jackson in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming that she has not received royalty payments due her for over a decade. We aren't talking about a few payday loans worth here. She isn't alone – the director of the video, comedy film mastermind John Landis is suing for not being paid royalties or licensing rights as well. If it goes her way, it will mean debt relief for Ola Ray.
