Hi Gerald,
Under the Results tab there is an option for Manual Grading. Hit this and you will be told how many essay questions need grading. Click on the question you want to grade and then you will see the list of learners with an option to grade each.
Hope this is what you wanted

Re: Grading Essays
Thanks Dave for your response. The Results block wasn't installed and when I install it I got this message: This course does not contain any quiz activities . You must add at least one before you are able to use this block correctly.
How is this done?

Re: Grading Essays
Gerald - it sounds as though you have added the Essay Questions but not created a Quiz activity.
To confirm this perhaps you could tell me if any of your learners have actually answered the essay questions yet.
Re: Grading Essays
I am currently setting this course up. And I created essay answers to some of my questions, and through the process of testing and navigating the course I answered several of the questions. When I submitted the answer the response was that the teacher would grade the essay. Well I can't find where or how, nor am I notified of submissions.
Re: Grading Essays
Gerald, make sure you are logged in as the instructor. What I do when we build classes is to create a dummy student account with completely separate login from the instructor. So, I can pretend to be a student and do and see only what students do. Then, I log out and come back in as an instructor. If you have completed a particular quiz as a student, you should then see the response be able to grade it. This is different from using the student view, and I think allows better testing of the functionalities. Hope that helps, Irmi
Re: Grading Essays
Thanks Irmgard you beat me to it
I hope that sorts things out Gerald
Re: Grading Essays
Thanks, I'll try that.
Re: Grading Essays
I tried that and logged in as a student, I then went through a series of quizzes that contained essays. I then logged out and logged in as the teacher but still have the error in the result block and unable to find where to grade the essays.
Re: Grading Essays
Ok, I just went through creating a quiz with an essay question, taking it as a student and then grading the question. Logged in as the instructor, I went to quizzes, chose the one I knew contained my essay question, selected manual grading then selected grade all. I then saw the response I had entered, had a comment window and could assign a grade. I'm not sure about the result block I don't use that in my class, I don't think.
Re: Grading Essays
Where do you see Quizzes?
Re: Grading Essays
OK, I see where I may not have been clear. I didnot create a Quiz, what I did was within a Lesson I added a Question Page Which have where you can select Essay the Essay requires the teacher to grade it. Thats what I'm trying to locate, sorry for the confusion.
Re: Grading Essays
