Obviously after an update in /mod/forum/discuss.php (at least the latest update I had) guests are kept from reading Site News at frontpage level. I figured this out mere coinsidentally when Google Sitemaps reported unreachable urls.
I just deleted line 43 in /mod/forum/discuss.php, so this problem is solved.
Now my question is: could have deleting line 43 in discuss.php any unwanted side effects for me? or with other words: what was the sense of adding "require_login($course->id);" in line 43?
