Thanks a lot to Miles, Steve, and Martin for the very useful info. I'm getting a better feel for what's involved. It would be great if some guidelines for backing up everything related to Moodle will someday be posted on this site. Having reliable backups, and not (potentially) doing any damage to databases is obviously as important as installation and configuration.
