this bug only affects people using Mysql 4+ and Moodle 1.5+
the bug is fixed in Moodle 1.6, however you can follow the "messy" instructions on this forum to make the choice work with 1.5 and Mysql 4+
If you upgrade to Moodle 1.6 you should not experience this issue.
